How will I communicate with my child's teachers?
Parents and students can communicate through e-mail, toll-free telephone conversations, written correspondence, or personal appointments.
What access to technology will the student have?
Online computers will be available to students at the Monroe Virtual Middle School Center. Students may also use home computers. When available, students may also access computers in their community, such as those at public libraries. Other than computers located at the Monroe Virtual Middle School Center, the School District of Monroe assumes no responsibility for costs related to computer hardware, software, or Internet connections. Maintenance and technical support will be limited to Monroe School District computers.
What tests are required?
The only tests related to course completion are those required by the course curriculum. To insure academic honesty, each test must be completed in a proctored setting. The Monroe Virtual Middle School teacher will arrange for students to complete tests at the Monroe Virtual Middle School Center or at an alternate location in the students community. Monroe Virtual Middle School students are required to take the state WKCE during the state mandated testing period.
Do students receive a grade in each subject?
Yes. Most courses are based on a four point grading scale, with letter grades assigned based upon grading percentages. A grade is issued only when the student has completed all of the required assignments, tests, and/or projects. Each course will indicate the level of acceptable performance and grade scale used. Independent Study, Service Learning, Work Study, and Physical Education are pass/fail.
Is there a set school schedule?
No. Flexible scheduling is one of the unique characteristics of the Monroe Virtual Middle School that allows students to study in the evening, weekends, early morning; any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To optimize the Monroe Virtual Middle School experience, it is recommended that each student build a study schedule that best matches their learning style, and that will assure steady progress. Having a personal schedule helps students stay focused and make consistent progress toward course completion and advancement.
